Mastering the Basics: How to Use Am, Is, and Are
The verb "to be" is the most important building block in the English language. In its present form, it appears as am, is, or are. We use these three small words every day to identify people, describe how we feel, and talk about the things around us.
The Simple Rules:
To use them correctly, you just need to look at the subject of your sentence:
Am: Only used with I (I am happy).
Is: Used with singular subjects like He, She, It, or a single person/object (The sun is bright; She is a doctor).
Are: Used with plural subjects like You, We, They, or groups of people (We are ready; The books are on the shelf).
