Working with Tourists
A collection of short dialogues for Thais to practice working with English speaking tourists.
Dialogue 1: At the Hotel Reception
Setting: Tom arrives at the hotel and checks in at the reception.
Tom: Hello! I have a reservation under the name Tom Smith.
Receptionist: Welcome, Mr. Smith! May I see your passport, please?
Tom: Sure, here it is.
Receptionist: Thank you. Your room is on the third floor, room 305. Here is your key card.
Tom: Great, thanks. Is breakfast included?
Receptionist: Yes, breakfast is served from 7 AM to 10 AM in the dining area.
Tom: Wonderful. Can you recommend any good restaurants nearby?
Receptionist: Certainly. There is a great Thai restaurant just around the corner.
Tom: Perfect. Thank you very much!
Receptionist: You’re welcome. Enjoy your stay!

Vendor: How about 180 baht?
Tom: Okay, I’ll take it. Do you have this in a larger size?
Vendor: Yes, we do. Here is the larger size.
Tom: Thank you. Do you accept credit cards?
Vendor: No, only cash.
Tom: Alright, here’s 200 baht.
Vendor: Here’s your change. Thank you!
Tom: Thank you! Have a nice day.

Tour Guide: Of course! This temple was built in the 14th century.
Tom: That’s amazing. What is it famous for?
Tour Guide: It is famous for its beautiful architecture and historical significance.
Tom: Is it okay to take pictures inside?
Tour Guide: Yes, but please do not use flash photography.
Tom: Understood. Are there any other attractions nearby?
Tour Guide: Yes, there is a museum just a short walk from here.
Tom: Great, I’ll check it out. Thank you for the information!
Tour Guide: You’re welcome. Enjoy your visit!

Tom: Mild, please. And can I also get a mango sticky rice for dessert?
Waiter: Certainly. Anything else?
Tom: That’s all for now, thank you.
Waiter: Your order will be ready shortly.
Tom: Thank you. I’m excited to try it!
Waiter: Enjoy your meal!

Tom: Here’s 150 baht.
Vendor: Thank you. You can use any of the available chairs and umbrellas.
Tom: Great, thanks. Do you have towels for rent as well?
Vendor: Yes, they are 30 baht each.
Tom: I’ll take one towel too, please.
Vendor: Here you go. Enjoy your time at the beach! Tom: Thanks a lot!

Shop Owner: Hmm, okay. I can give you that price.
Tom: Great, I’ll take them. Do you have any gift wrapping?
Shop Owner: Yes, we can wrap them for you.
Tom: Thank you very much!
Shop Owner: You’re welcome. Have a great day!

Travel Agent: It’s 800 baht per person.
Tom: Okay, I’ll book one spot.
Travel Agent: Excellent. Here’s your ticket and itinerary.

Tom: Thank you. How often do the trains to Chiang Mai leave?
Station Staff: There are trains every two hours.
Tom: Great. Do I need to reserve a seat in advance?
Station Staff: It’s recommended, especially during peak season.
Tom: Okay, I’ll do that. Where can I find a schedule?
Station Staff: There’s a schedule posted on the wall next to the ticket counter.
Tom: Thanks a lot for your help!
Station Staff: You’re welcome. Have a safe trip!

Pharmacist: Yes, we have several brands. Which SPF do you need?
Tom: SPF 30, please.
Pharmacist: Here you go. Anything else?
Tom: No, that’s all. Thank you.
Pharmacist: You’re welcome. Take care!

Local: It’s about a 15-minute walk.
Tom: Is there a bus that goes there?
Local: Yes, you can take bus number 15. The bus stop is right over there.
Tom: Thank you so much!
